It sounds like I iconned the moment when Vegas was taken over by the Evil Internet Gremlins, doesn't it? Lol! That would've probably been more interesting! ;)
Anyway, here I was, just an innocent viddergirl, happily making her angsty/romantic Jack/Gwen vid, when suddenly... a bunch of my clips went black. O_O I don't mean they had blinkie issues (which Vegas is famous for). I mean they were black like they were gone. So I finally decided to cut them out of the ep again and that's when I discovered... *cue ominous music*
...the black places were coming from the episode itself! NooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOOoooo!!! That meant I might not even be able to toss the ep into WMM and render out those scenes if there was just something fundamentally wrong with the ep itself.
*sound of Veronica teh evol vidding muse getting ready to fry Vegas's bacon*
O_O
I've only got about 40 seconds left to go out of the 2:50-ish (don't have the credits on yet so don't know how long they'll add) and I might could even finish it tonight if I could just get everything working again! *pouts* I had it do this to me on my Terminator vid but luckily I'd done a test rendering of that particular spot to check for the timing and so I was able to import the .WMV test back into the vid to fill out the missing "super-blinkies."
I guess it's just a weird side-effect from using .AVI? I dunno! But I'm hoping that maybe if I close Vegas out, then load it up again that the eps might work for long enough for me to render what I have done, then I'll have something to "patch" with if the "super-blinkies" return.
By the way, for those of you who don't know what I mean by blinkies, Vegas has a bad habit of getting split-seconds of blackness in your clips on the timeline, so that when you watch the rendered vid, it looks like places of it are flashing on-off-on-off very quickly, like a series of blinks. They can be cut out by painstakingly trimming those split-seconds of blackness out, then rendering the clip and using that newly rendered clip in place of the old one. But these "super-blinkies" are sometimes as long as 2 or 3 seconds of continuous blackness, causing you to lose whole scenes, not just have an annoying flickering. *pouts*
So, since I'm stuck waiting on Jack and Gwen to come back from Planet Super-Blinkie (and I'm sure hoping they DO, lol! ;) ) I decided to amuse myself by doing something completely worthless:
I had a look through my pic folders at random, chose some pics that just appealed to me, and played around with them in Paintshop. I ended up going for a "painted" look, then cropped them down into icons and played around with some variations on several of them. And now, let me pin them all to my LJ's refrigerator here andmake you look at them show them to you! ;)
1.

Riddick - I really ended up liking the golden glowy cast to this one; it's rather ironic considering how dark (both in tone and in lighting) that Pitch Black is! ;)
2.

Dean and Sam, angsty
3.

Dean and Sam, happier ;)
4.

And since Jared didn't get a lot of "face time" in those first two... ;)
5.

A funky variation that reminds me of some sort of psychodelic '70's album cover art, lol! ;)
6.

*sigh* Oh Ares... ;)
7.

Lee Adama, master of towels... ;)
8.

One of my favorite pics of my favorite dimpled, Southern bad boy... ;)
9.

Ooo, Sawyer - dramatic! ;)
10.

Some dramatic lighting from Nine as well. ;) ♥!
11.

Nine and Rose, with appropriate rose-colored tinting... ;)
12.

Jack and Gwen (Original screencap for comparison's sake, if you're interested ;) What can I say? I was proud of getting some color in that blue as well as getting rid of the BBCThree logo... *bats eyelashes innocently* ;) )
13.

Gwen - something about this shot really drew my attention the first time I spotted it; it just seems so pretty! ;)
14.

Jack, with some dramatic lighting of his own... ;)
And now in handy icon form, lol! ;)

I don't tend to do "fancy" icon things but I decided to play around with gradients on the second one. ;) (Yes, I just said using a gradient was "fancy," lol! This is how you know I'm not much of an icon-maker! ;) It felt fancy at the time, what can I say? LOL!)

sexay!Jack, bringing sexy back... ;)
And now that I've wasted my time and yours, I think I'll go to bed now! ;) Nighty-night! *hugs* ♥!
Insert standard icon disclaimer here (though I doubt it will be needed ;) ) about how comments and crediting makes my ♥ happy... :D I left text off of most of these because I didn't really know what I wanted them to say at this point, lol! ;) They'll probably eventually get something on them but in the meanwhile, on the off-chance that you'd like them to say something in particular, just let me know and I'll be glad to "text them up" for you! ;) Resources are in my profile

Date: 2008-02-11 01:28 pm (UTC)Blinkies!!!!! So that's what they're called?
I HATE IT when Vegas does that. So frustrating. Especially when it does that to a clip that you have already placed on the timeline for a while and that you have rendered a couple of times already.
So freaking frustrating.
Good luck with Vegas, hun!! ♥

Date: 2008-02-13 04:01 am (UTC)Good luck to you, too! I'm not sure exactly why the Evil Internet Gremlins are just SO determined that we don't finish the vids we're working on but we'll hopefully persevere in the end! :D ;) (I've got 20 seconds left to go! *fingers crossed* )
*hugs!* ♥!

Date: 2008-02-12 02:35 am (UTC)Is it possible for you to maybe download another version of the file and just use that? I know that my Vegas had this CRAZY thing where, when using an AVI turned WMV with WMM file, the clip will end (regardless of WHERE I trim the clip) with the final picture of the rendered clip. So if I convert a scene with Sam and Dean fighting and then Dean walking out the door or some such thing, I may cut it during the fighting, but the very last picture I see when I render it is a screencap of Dean leaving. But if I get an original WMV file of that it works fine. So maybe the rendering in WMM got messed up for you? I dunno. Like I said, vidding's so complicated! :(
Hope it all works out for you. ;)
I like the first Riddick one! Looks very contemplative and somber. And the Dean one right after it seems like he got punched (because it's so black and blue oriented!) But it obviously fits because of the angstiness! :D
Funky!70s-Jared. Oh, yeah... *giggles*
6, 7, 8, 9 look amazing!!! Don't know what it is about them but I really like their coloring! And 11's coloring is really pretty too!
See! You do good work! :D

Date: 2008-02-13 08:59 am (UTC)I had a variation of that with the Starbuck/BSG vid I tried to do! Except what it would do was change the first split-second of my first clip to whatever the last clip was that I had put on the timeline! O_O So it was like, "Guess which clip will start the vid today!" every time I tried to work on it! That just about drove me nuts, GRRRR! That's why I finally gave up on it, because nothing I did could seem to stop it from doing that. :(
Mine right now is having a total meltdown, lol! ;) You know the little still pic that represents the first frame of the clip in your media bin? Well, one ep's pic has taken over a couple of other ones so they're all alike and now the other couple keep changing their pic to whatever the first frame is of the last clip I took out of that ep! O_O And occasionally ALL of the clips on the timeline have the same pic! (Not confusing much! :S )
And I was so proud of solving that weird audio error by converting my song to .WMA? Well, it caught up with me and won't build the peaks for my song anymore (though at least the song is still working *knock wood* ). I use those peaks to help with the beat use but oh well, I can do it with the markers instead. It's just annoying!

Awwwww, thanks! I really appreciate the detailed feedback (and the total kindness in which you gave it, lol! ;) )! I did really like how the Riddick one came out, just because it's so golden yet somber at the same time. ;)
Like I said, I really appreciate you being so kind because there are icon-makers like you up here *holds hand up waaaaaaay high* and then there's me. *has to crawl in a hole to get appropriate low enough* ;) Not meaning to sound all pity-party or anything, I'm just realistic about my skill level so that I hopefully won't ever do something completely stupid like enter an icon contest or something where somebody will say something BRUTAL to me! O_O ('Cause seriously? I think icon-makers are the harshest critics of their "trade." They say things to aspiring icon-makers that I've never heard experienced vidders, for example, say to newbie vidders, especially if you're trying to get into some elite icon comm! O_O )
*backs sloooooowly away from elite icon comms* ;) So I'm happy just to pin my stuff to my LJ's fridge and make my kind friends look at it, trusting that they won't really let me have it! O_O
*smishes you liek woah* ;) And yay, my Torchwood vid has just finished its first "whole" rendering, where I've now got the timeline filled! Just have to get the beat use settled and add credits and watermark and YAY, it's done! *happy dances* ♥♥♥!!!
