...against a wall. ;)
I've spent a couple of hours tonight really working on my Locke vid. I've got quite a few places on the timeline (hee, I called it a Time Lord first... ;) ) roughed in but this is turning into a much more difficult process than I originally anticipated. See, this is a 3:30 long song with a lot of fast beats and is just over-all very fast-paced. Usually I wouldn't try to match all of the beats but for this, it's going to look sort of laggy if I don't at least acknowledge the chord changes (not the drumbeats themselves, it would just be a strobe light! ;) ). Now, you see, I'm slightly intimidated by quick cuts. Of course, I've used them sparingly in previous vids but I've never really tackled a song that's requiring a lot of them used with at least some pretense of knowing what I'm doing! ;)
I don't want it to be a series of images just blurring by, so I've found a way to (hopefully) make it fast while still being understandable. One definite rule: I'm using white flashes very sparingly or I'll be responsible for people falling out of their chairs all over the world, LOL! And really, over-relying on white flashes isn't a good vidding habit anyway. White flashes definitely have their place in your vidding arsenal, but you don't want to whip them out and fire them at people like they're shotgun rounds! O_O ;)
Anyway, as I said, I'm not using any of my previous techniques on this one because it would be too laborious to try and go clip-by-clip down the timeline and vid it in a linear fashion (struggling over each clip is hard enough when I'm not using a lot of "tiny" quick cut clips! O_O ). But at the same time, I really can't script it out, even the abbreviated sort of spot-scripting I've been trying to do because, again, it's hard for me to do that with quick cuts. It's like, you need so many of them just to fill a tiny spot on the timeline it begins to feel impossible to do!
*is frustrated*
I may have to walk away from this one for a bit, just because it's making me feel sooooooo stressed! I want to do my very best on this one, since it's been something I've wanted to do for so long. Yet that sort of thinking ends up putting a great deal of pressure on me that I really don't need: "You've got one chance to do this vid, right, Ais! So make it perfect!" *does not do well under pressure!* O_O
I may just have to work on this one in stages; try to keep filling in the timeline as much as I can, then step away from it and work on something else when the pressure begins to get to me. Then go back when I feel like I can stand it again.
Geesh, do I have to make vidding such a chore all the time? *eyeroll* Sometimes, I just frakkin' suck! *pout* And I never learn my lesson, that's what really annoys me! I know better, I really do! I know I shouldn't try so hard to make something perfect because it's never going to be perfect. *more pouting*
So, I switched over to cutting the song for my uber-angsty Nine vid. I mean, I love the entire song and hate to cut anything out but dang, it's 4:30 long and it's soooooo saaaaaaaad. I just can't take 4 and a half minutes of uber-angst! ;) So I've got it to about 3 minutes now, which is more do-able, IMO. ;) Plus it helped me get rid of a few "inconvenient" lines (you know those, "Argh, what am I going to do with that????"). ;) I've got the opener and closer already in place and just need to render up a bit more Season 2 footage before I have enough material to put the clips in place. And yes, this is a NINE vid and I need Season 2 footage... :P *mysterious music plays*
It really does make me feel bad that I can vid Doctor Who SOOOOOO much easier than I can Lost or any other fandom right now. :S It's just fun for me to vid DW in a way that it's not for the others and that really annoys me. It's ALL vidding, so why won't it just fall into place for me in other fandoms? But Lost is the one that hurts me the most. When I struggle this hard to vid Lost, it just makes me feel like a complete failure; I guess because I know I know Lost's footage better than any other show. I've seen all the seasons AND I've seen thousands (literally now) of vids for it. Shouldn't that make it easier?
*remembers the old saying about familiarity breeding contempt* :S
Still, I feel like I should be able to overcome all of that, if my muse would just cooperate! *smacks her vidding muse on the side of the head* What is wrong with you, Veronica?
Note: I facetiously said my vidding muse was named Veronica one day and now it's kinda stuck. :P But I'm really tempted to call her something else most days. *glares at her*
*Veronica makes a rude gesture*
See? She has attitude! What's with THAT??? *Veronica sticks out her tongue and vanishes for the night*
I tell ya, try working with a muse like her and see if it doesn't make you start talking to yourself!
;)
Okay, I've been listening to my full-length uber-angsty song and now I'm regretting those cuts. *sigh* 4 and a half minutes is just waaaaay too long for a "heavy" vid, though. Ah well, I'm just going to head to bed and worry about it all tomorrow! ;)
Nighty-night for now, flist! Apologies for double posting today, I just felt like separating themen from the boys memes from the vidding rants... ;) *hugs you all!* ♥♥♥!!!

*Veronica makes a rude gesture*
*gasp!* Oh my apologies, KC! Do you see what sort of muse I have to work with here? She just keeps spitting 'tude at everybody! *tsks*
;)
I mean, I'd love to make a great Dean vid or a great just!Jack-centric vid, which is something I've never done. (But oddly I've made two Charlie-centric vids, strange right?)
I'd never thought about that but that's right, isn't it? You don't have a straight-up just!Jack vid! Hm, maybe you'll get inspired once there's some new footage to work with! ;) One can always hope, right? ;)
Anyway, thanks for always encouraging me. It's always really appreciated! *hugs!* ♥!

Date: 2007-11-14 03:26 pm (UTC)I struggle with beat use as well but I think a good rule is if in doubt don't feel like you have to catch every beat just get the big important ones when it smashes into the chorus and such. And as KC said you should be enjoying yourself. Ignore the beat use you if you have to to you can always fix it later. You're an amazing vidder trust in your own instinct and it will be a fantabulous video I'm sure. And yay for you doing a Locke vid. That's really cool. Keep at it can't wait to see it :D

Date: 2007-11-15 03:52 am (UTC)I agree, she definitely has the VM sass thing going on. ;) (And I love VM! ;) ) I just wish she would cooperate with me a little more! *exasperated sigh* ;)
Thanks so much for all your advice! I really appreciate it and especially the kind words! *blush* ;) I'm not going to give up on Locke just yet; I just wish it was easier! *glares at Veronica a bit more* (She never looks worried when I glare at her, sigh... ;) ) *hugs!* ♥!

Date: 2007-11-14 05:18 pm (UTC)Oh hon, don't let it stress you out too much. It's all supposed to be fun! ;) And don't feel that you have to rush it either, take your time and don't put too much pressure on yourself. :)
I've totally lost my ability to vid at the moment! The amount of vids I've started and walked away from...
Anyways Good Luck with it all! ;)

Date: 2007-11-15 07:20 am (UTC)I hope Veronica stops playing up! Muses can be a complete pain, can't they! And good luck with the Locke vid! It sounds tricky but I'm sure you'll be able to do it! :)

Date: 2007-11-18 04:34 am (UTC)Muses really can be such pains! But I guess we can't make do without them, huh? ;) Thanks for the good luck wishes for my Locke vid; I really need it! :D *hugs!* ♥!

Date: 2007-11-18 04:39 am (UTC)Heeeeeeee! Oh Trey, you just slay me, lol! ;)
Awww... *wibbles* I can hardly believe you put "Runaway Train" in with "Speed of Sound" and "Wonderwall!" Thank you so much for saying that, that really means a lot to me!
I know that I really need to work on making vidding fun again... Or at least, at making vidding Lost fun again. I can have all sorts of fun vidding for Doctor Who because it's like it's more for me than for anybody else. But Lost is like my "serious" vidding, where for better or worse I'm going to be "competiting" not just with other vidders but with all of the vids that I've already done, you know? :S I have to keep trying to top myself with the Lost vids. *sigh* Ah well. I'll just have to keep working on that attitude of mine, huh? ;)
Thanks so much for commenting! Always so appreciated! Now get some sleep! ;) *hugs!* ♥!
