Beware city inspectors with twitchy trigger fingers

So here's the thing. It's been 6 months since they started the repairs on my house and they STILL haven't gotten it signed off and done. The most recent hold up has been getting the electrical panel signed off on by the city inspector. You remember that panel? The one that took 8 hours (with no power, of course) to install, then had to be taken out and installed again? O_O Well, the inspector failed it the first time, so they had to come out and add some more doo-hickey thingamabobs (technical term ;) ) to it, then the inspector was supposed to come yesterday between 8 and noon to check it again. It was made very clear that he didn't do inspections after noon. So I waited all morning, putting off the errands I had to run, and noon comes and goes and no inspector. So as it's getting close to 2, I finally have to dash out. And of course, I come back to find a note on the front door that he'd been here. *sigh*

So he reschedules for today, same time frame. He did managed to make it just barely before noon at least! ;) I'm figuring this ought to be an easier inspection than the first one, where he really dug into the panel (though didn't have to turn off the power, thankfully). So he just goes out there, checks that the doo-hickey thingamabobs are installed, then like an after-thought, he flips the main power off. DUDE, MY COMPUTER WAS ON! *smacks forehead* Well, technical my computer was now OFF. Geez, could he have given a warning or something??? He walked right by it to get to the panel so he saw it was on! What got me was how casually he just BLAMMO! kills the power then flips it back on. Was there a point to that? O_O

Oy. Well, at least my computer was able to boot back up. My baby is a bit neurotic about not shutting down properly but she did get me back up and running eventually. And luckily my obsessive-compulsive need to save things before I step away from the computer kept me from losing the Word docs I had open at the time!

Now, onto more important things! My Doctor Who icon addiction continues to rage uncontrolled. Here I am supposed to be doing "important" things today and I keep sneaking away to hunt down more cool icons! ;) And, uh, collecting new Nine/Christopher Eccleston pics. *draws hearts around Nine/CE* What? So he's not "traditionally handsome" like Josh Holloway or Jensen Ackles... I still find him charming and charismatic and I freakin' love to hear him talk and I'm totally just grinning like a loon right now and it has just now occurred to me how seriously big of a fangirl crush I have on Nine. *blush* ;) *dreamy sigh* Crushes on fictional characters, FTW! ;) ♥!

Ahem. Changing subjects! ;) Something good that I really wasn't expecting: I dug out my 600 page novel and found it all together! I thought it was still separated into several different notebooks from the last editing pass I'd made through it -- you can't cram the entire original draft AND the rewrite into one 3-ring binder so I had to take sections of the original draft and put it in with the rewrite; very awkward and hard to manage but the best solution I had at the time. Fortunately, though, when I realized that rewrite was a big FAIL, I did put the first draft back together again! So I was able to have a quick look at it.

This is always a really dicey thing for me to look over something I haven't seen in a long while. Usually I'll start thinking about an old story or whatever and decide to take a stab at rewriting it, but then I'll read the original draft and get completely discouraged by what a mess it is or how poorly it's written and just hide it under the magazines again. So I kinda snuck up on this one, ready to run at the first sign of feeling depressed by it.

But yay, even though there's still all the glaring "first draft" roughness to it, it didn't make me want to bury it in the backyard! And it was like meeting up with old friends again! *even more yays!* I have a weird almost disconnect with this novel; I know it's mine, of course, but it often used to feel more like I just found it rather than it's something I laboriously put together, you know? I hope that doesn't sound all boasty/braggy, 'cause I'm certainly not saying it's some fabulous piece of writing, it's definitely NOT! I can see all of its faults quite well but for some reason I can file them away as "Okay, that's fixable" rather than have it hit me as "ZOMGHORRIBLE, hide it! Bury it! Never let it see daylight again!"

That's still no guarantee that I'll be able to tighten it up, finish it or sell it. But hey, I'll still just be really glad if I can put an ending on it after all these years! That would mean something, just to know I really DID finish it!

On the vidding front: I still would like to do the Jack vid I mentioned last time but I'm feeling a little less enthusiastic about it because I've found half a dozen more Doctor Who vids to this same song! O_O None of them are for Jack but it just kinda takes the wind out of your sails a bit knowing the song has been SO vidded in this genre.

BUT! I heard a song a couple of days ago that just hit me like a punch to the gut. It's perfect for a Nine character study! Okay, character study AND Nine/Rose shipper vid, 'cause, seriously? I don't think I can leave out the shippiness! ;) And the song is a very shippy song, too, but has lyrics that just fit Nine so well. In my opinion, anyway. ;) If I wasn't being swamped by RL, I'd definitely try to vid this before I go but there's just no way. :S So I'm taking the song with me and the lyrics and am just going to try to script it out without the benefit of being able to see any of my footage! ;) Guess I'll see how good my memory is, huh? ;) I'm SO tempted to print the transcripts out but, even setting the font down to "microscopic" :P it was still going to be a couple hundred pages for the entire first season! *twitch* o_O I might print some of my favorite eps if I get to feeling really desperate before Friday, lol! ;) We'll just have to see.

I was hoping to go through my flist today but I didn't cover much ground, sorry to say. :( I feel SO bad about that; I really miss keeping up with all of you! :( I just hope you guys know that I would do a much better job if I possibly could! *squishes you all*

Welp, I think I hear the TARDIS coming to pick me up now, so I'd better go! Oh wait, that's just the sound of another early morning and busy day ahead of me, letting me know I'd better get to bed at a semi-decent hour or I really AM going to think I see the TARDIS parked on my front lawn! ;) (If I do see it, though, I'm totally knocking on the door and asking Nine to take me with him! *boots Rose politely to the curb* :P ;) Sorry, Rose, it's Nine/me > Nine/Rose in times like that... ;) )

*big, big hugs!* ♥♥♥!!!
