Ashes To Ashes 3x08 (series finale)

aislynnShow, oh show! There's still so much to process that I'm still trying to take it all in and see how it all fits together! But my overall reaction was that at least most things were tied up and resolved and that Gene and Alex both ended up with their stories completed.
Just a few reactions, mainly from the end:
Ahhhh! They killedKenny the Quattro! O_O Ain't gonna lie, I went *GASP!SOB* at that one. The Quattro was just so quintessentially a character in the show (and so undeniably Gene ;) ) that it was like losing a member of the team to see it all shot up like that. :(
Though how awesome was it when Gene said he was arresting (aka shooting ;) ) the guy for "murdering" his car, lol!
As the gang gathered together one last time at the end, I kinda loved how Shaz and Ray clearly understood that they were saying goodbye to Gene, yet Chris didn't. That was just perfectly Chris (even though it did keep him from getting a proper goodbye with the Guv, pretty much that came previously when they finally settled their differences, didn't it? What more was left to say?).
Chris: "Not coming in, Guv?"
Gene: "No, not right now."
Which gives me hope that one day Gene will get to step down from his "job" and get to rejoin the rest of them, from Sam and Annie, to Shaz, Chris, Ray and... Alex.
And these next pics don't really need captioning. Despite the sadness of knowing that Alex was going as well, while Gene was staying behind, my shipper heart was at least thankful that we finally got that long awaited kiss! ♥!
Still, so bittersweet because it was a kiss goodbye. *sniffles*
And then Alex is gone and Gene is alone. :(
But we end with Gene back in his office, ready to help the next bunch of police officers on their way.
However, to me, I'll just imagine that the Guv and his Bolly will still have a happily ever after one day. ;)
Just an extra shot of them that I loved, that she refused to leave him, even when everybody else lost faith. *draws hearts around them both*
I was honestly surprised, by the way, that Alex didn't get reunited with Molly again. I figured that she would get the chance to go back and then choose to stay with her daughter over going back to Gene's world (taking the opposite choice that Sam did). She fought so hard to get back to her and to stay alive, that it was a bit shocking that, when all was said and done, she couldn't get back. But I liked that she realized that her purpose there all that time wasn't to get back, it was to help Gene remember who he was and put him back on the right path.
Granted that was a bit of a shift in exactly who the main character of the show is, I suppose (and I've seen some criticism tonight that Alex accepted her death and that she wouldn't get back to Molly after all too easily, which is a valid point; I just felt like it was one of those moments where she had to accept it because it was true and there was nothing that any of them could do about it).
Anyway, as I said earlier, I thought that Alex's journey did end up with a destination, even if I would've really loved it if she would've stayed with Gene. (Seriously, can you imagine how quickly the dead coppers would start getting rehabilitated between the two of them? ;) ) But it was so important to see that Gene let her go, especially since that was one of Keats' main arguments to try to turn Alex against him, saying that Gene was keeping her there deliberately.
And, like I said, I'm still believing that Gene and Alex will one day get a "real" ending that looks something more like this...
Together again and in each other's arms. *will never stop flying the shipper flag* ;) ♥!
I'm going to miss this show and these characters but at least it was one heck of a ride, wasn't it? ;)
