aislynn: (Doctor Who - Nine how you doin)
(Borrowing from the main entry here because it says it better than I could try to rephrase it myself. ;) )

[livejournal.com profile] writing4acause is a fanfiction community established to raise money in the fight against breast cancer, donated directly to the Susan G. Komen foundation to sponsor [livejournal.com profile] ovariesofsteel in her mission to complete the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure in Boston, July 2011.

Founded in 1982, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. The organization has invested more than $1.5 billion to fulfill its promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

The walk is broken down into approximately 20 miles per day, for which [livejournal.com profile] ovariesofsteel has already begun to train. Men and women from all over the globe unite for 72 hours and sleep, eat, and walk together to raise awareness while loved ones, survivors, and those struggling to beat breast cancer cheer them on every step of the way. Before a participant can walk, however, there's $2,300 to raise. Some of you have already heard [livejournal.com profile] ovariesofsteel's new mantra of 60 Miles! 3 Days! $2,300 to raise!

Read the rest here. ;)

So far there's only ONE Doctor Who author signed up there and that seems like a real shame to me. I'm hoping that some of my lovely DW fic writer flisters will head on over and have a look around and sign up. This is a REALLY worthwhile cause and if you were thinking about making a donation anyway, this would be a great way to help [livejournal.com profile] ovariesofsteel reach her goal to take part in the Walk for the Cure and you also can get fic of your very own as a thank you! :D So it's total win/win all the way around! \o/

This isn't an auction, so there's no bidding or single winner, all of the donations go straight to the Susan G. Komen foundation. So be sure to note if you have any restrictions on how many fics you can write if you have any concerns about that, because you could end up being claimed more than once. ;) However, that really shouldn't be any different than offering incentive drabbles in an author auction, so if you've done that before, you should be basically set. ;)

Thanks so much for reading this, I hope to see you over at [livejournal.com profile] writing4acause, whether you're signing up, donating or both! :D Huge, HUGE thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ovariesofsteel who's going to be literally "walking the walk" on this. You can do it, hon! *hugs* ♥♥♥!!!
